    Tambopata Research Center & Machu Picchu Itinerary

    Day 1: Arrive Lima

    Arrive in Lima and transfer to your hotel.

    Overnight: Lima Airport Ramada



    Day 2: Puerto Maldonado | Refugio Amazonas

    Fly to the Amazon Basin town of Puerto Maldonado, and continue by canoe down the Tambopata River to Refugio Amazonas lodge, with wildlife viewing en route. Nocturnal excursion to search for black caiman, which can grow up to 20 feet in length.

    Day 3: Refugio Amazonas

    After breakfast, hike to the canopy tower and observe wildlife in the primary forest from the 100-foot tall structure. This afternoon, travel by canoe four and a half hours upriver to the Tambopata Research Center, located in one of the most pristine and remote regions of the Amazon rainforest.

    Overnight: Refugio Amazonas (B, L, D)



    Day 4: Tambopata Research Center

    Early rise this morning and transfer to a river bank observation point. On a clear morning, view dozens of colorful parrots and macaws flock around the clay lick. This afternoon, enjoy a nature walk to spot a Squirrel, Brown, Capuchin, and Spider Monkeys. Evening lecture from a TRC researcher about conservation efforts and threats.

    Day 5: Refugio Amazonas

    After breakfast, canoe three and a half hours downriver to Refugio Amazonas. This afternoon, enjoy a paddle in a canoe or catamaran around an oxbow lake in search of wildlife such as hoatzin, caiman and horned screamers.

    Day 6: Puerto Maldonado | Cusco

    Retrace your river journey back to Puerto Maldonado and fly to Cusco. Enjoy a City Tour of Cusco.

    Day 7: Sacred Valley | Pisac | Aguas Calientes

    Descend into the Sacred Valley and explore Incan ruins and a local market in Pisac. Late afternoon train to Aguas Calientes.

    Day 8: Machu Picchu | Cusco

    Enjoy a comprehensive, private tour of Machu Picchu. This afternoon return to Cusco.

    Day 9: Cusco | Lima | Depart

    Explore Cusco on your own and fly to Lima. Connect in Lima with your overnight, international flight home.
