    Galapagos Family Adventure Itinerary

Day 1: Home | Quito, Ecuador

Upon arrival to Quito, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your inn to relax.

    Overnight: Mercure Hotel Quito

    Day 2: Quito

Canopy Zip-line in the Cloud Forest and Visit the Equator Line.

Descend the Andes to the Mindo Cloud Forest, home to over 300 different species of tropical birds, including toucans, quetzals, and hummingbirds, along with numerous mammals. Upon arrival, slide on a harness and clip in for an exhilarating zip-line canopy tour. After lunch, transfer to the Middle of the World monument, where you can straddle the equator by putting one foot in each hemisphere. This evening enjoy dinner on your own.

Overnight: Mercure Hotel Quito (B, L)

Day 3: Fly to Isabela Island, Galapagos

Mountain Bike in Puerto Villamil, Observe Greater Flamingos and The Wall of Tears.

After your morning flight from Quito to Baltra Island, change planes for a short, inter-island flight to Isabela. Isabela is the largest and most biologically diverse island in the archipelago, and the perfect place to begin your Galapagos adventure. After lunch, explore Puerto Villamil by mountain bike. Keep your eyes out for herons, black-necked stilts, Galapagos pintails, and with a little luck, the Greater flamingo. Make your way to the Wall of Tears, the remains of an old penal colony, and learn about the human history of the Galapagos. Finish the day with a refreshing swim as the sun sets on the horizon.

Overnight: La Casa de Marita (B, L, D)

    Day 4: Isabela Island

Snorkeling Excursion to Tintoreras and Los Tuneles.

This morning you’ll travel by boat along the coast of Isabela to visit the marine sanctuary, Los Túneles, a unique network of channels, arches, and tunnels formed by a series of lava flows. Enjoy a walk over the arches and snorkeling in this spectacular site, which is home to numerous aquatic animals such as sea turtles, sharks, and Blue-footed Boobies. With calm and clear blue waters, and abundance of marine wildlife, many visitors describe this site as a “natural aquarium”. After a box lunch on board, travel across the bay with your guide to Tintoreras Island. The island is a resting place for white-tip reef sharks, “Tintoreras” in Spanish. With a little luck, you’ll see Galapagos penguins, the smallest species of penguins in the world and endemic to the Galapagos. A short hike allows you to observe one of the largest colonies of marine iguanas in Galapagos, white-tip sharks, sea lions, Sally Lightfoot crabs, and Blue-footed Boobies. Return to the bay for some more snorkeling with sea lions, rays, and many different species of tropical fish.

Overnight: La Casa de Marita (B, L, D)

    Day 5: Isabela Island

Sierra Negra Volcano Hike and Surf Lesson.

This morning transfer 13 miles inland to the highlands of Isabela to Sierra Negra, one of the largest volcano craters in the world, measuring 6 miles in diameter and 1,000 feet deep. Steaming fumaroles and charcoal-black landscapes are proof of its recent eruption and ongoing volcanic activity. Embark on a hike around the crater rim and witness lava remains from the dramatic eruption in 2005. This afternoon cool off with a surf lesson from a local Galapagos surfer and see the islands from a different persepctive.

Overnight: La Casa de Marita (B, L, D)

    Day 6: Santa Cruz Island

Boat to Puerto Ayora and Travel to the Highlands of Santa Cruz.

This morning take a speedboat to Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island, the largest port town in the Galápagos. After lunch, travel through several different vegetation zones and witness the landscape become increasingly lush and green by the minute as you ascend to the highlands of Santa Cruz. Near the highest point on the island, look down into the extinct twin craters, Los Gemelos. Take a short hike to observe the iconic, 300-pound Giant Galapagos Tortoises in their natural state.

    Overnight: Sol y Mar Hotel (B, L)

    Day 7: Santa Cruz Island

Snorkel Excursion to Academy Bay and Visit the Charles Darwin Research Station.

This morning enjoy another snorkel excursion in the Galapagos Marine Reserve. Board a small boat and head to La Lobería, a resting place for playful sea lions, multicolored fish, and sea turtles. This afternoon enjoy a guided visit of the Charles Darwin Research Station, where you will learn about current scientific research and the Station’s mission to ensure the conservation of the environment and biodiversity in the Galapagos Archipelago. The Station is also a tortoise breeding and rearing center. Observe how tortoises of different subspecies are prepared for reintroduction to their natural habitats.

    Overnight: Sol y Mar Hotel (B, L)
