The holiday was terrific. Fabulous memories and delighted with your help, service and recommendations.
Nairobi is best avoided.
Movements between DES domestic and international airport very easy.
For such a small extra sum, I would recommend having a private plane to and from safari. A real treat and small cost in the scheme of things.
Riverside Lodge was excellent. Accommodation very good. Food was good except for lunch when out on safari. This was poor. Three nights here is really enough. The key reason is that safaris are all day; 8am - 5.30pm. Schedules are quite fixed which is an all day followed by a day’s rest then another all day. It is ok to rest if the night is essentially free but would be expensive downtime otherwise. People there really nice and Rama our safari guide was excellent. No complaints at. Worth noting that there were no leopards or rhino but plenty of other animals. Very few other vehicles seen which was really good. The daily drive into Selous was not an issue. Excellent all in all.
Baraza was beautiful. Pure luxury. A top class hotel in every respect and one I could not recommend more highly.
Our biggest disappointment was the diving which was meant to be a key part of the holiday. The winds were too strong (typical in the summer) and the diving was either cancelled or very poor. A real shame and I would not recommend coming here in the summer to dive. Still, it saved some money. Diving I learned is best Nov - March. The strong winds however meant that the sailing and kite surfing were good.
Hope this is useful.
